Since the groom will make most of his wedding memories at the reception, he should play a role in deciding how to decorate for the reception. When it comes down to it, people will remember the entertainment and the food more than anything else, so as you're considering how to spend your wedding dollars keep those two facts in mind.
I'm a minimalist at heart. I don't get excited about balloons and streamers. I prefer to make a big splash with color and florals. I'd rather select a venue that does not require much to spruce it up so I can focus on the table designs. I want the room to pop with color and drama.
Every florist or wedding planner as access to a linen rental company. There are choices for every budget and style. If your budget allows for a more upscale linens and napkins, I would highly recommend it. The transformation in the room will be well worth it. There are many beautiful wedding lace overlays that can be added to accent or compliment the under cloth. If you an afford it, I would also recommend renting dark wood chivari chairs or using chair covers and sashes. Most reception venues have fabric chairs that will clash with any wedding them.
The floral plays a vital role in the room's decor. The florals will add color and ambiance to the room. They will also help develop the theme for the decor. I worked with a florist who made wedding cakes out of greenery and decorated them with assorted florals. They were the talk of the party. Consider using varying heights to the floral arrangements. Alternating high and low will add texture and variety to the room.
If you need to add to the room to make it feel warmer or bring in the space, add some greenery. Most florists will cut a deal if they are already providing your wedding florals. Using natural accents will make the room feel inviting to your guests.
Using mirrored bases is a bit outdated, but it can enhance the flicker of any candle light. Use odd numbers when adding votive candles to a table design, most venues offer clear glass votives as part of their rental costs. Soft candle light does wonders for the overall look of the room. Be careful not to place them too close to any greenery from the floral arrangement, they are flammable.
Consider the feel you want to create in the room. Take a look at how you can accomplish the theme through linens, florals and lighting. Use color to your advantage to create the WOW experience you want your guests to experience when they walk into the room.
