Just as colors have meaning, so do different types of flowers. When deciding on the flowers to include in your bouquet, consider the using the meaning of the flowers as just one more way to express the sentiments you want to convey to your groom.
There are several popular flowers used for bridal bouquets, here are a list of a few.
- Chrysanthemums are associated with innocence, cheerfulness, truth and love.
- Ferns are often as filler in a bouquet to help round out the floral arrangement. Ferns stand for sincerity.
- Gardenias are often chosen for their fragrance as well as their beauty. Gardenias symbolize joy and happiness.
- Gerbera Daisies come in a variety of vibrant, cheerful colors and are a popular choice for modern wedding flowers. Traditionally, daisies represent beauty and innocence.
- Hydrangeas are a favorite for wedding flowers. There is much debate about their symbolism-some say they represent vanity and boastfulness while other say hydrangeas represent gratitude.
- Irises symbolize affection, faith, hope and wisdom.
- Ivy this is a great addition to wedding flowers since ivy represents eternal fidelity.
- Lilacs are a popular choice for spring weddings as they are one of the first signs of the season and they have a soft sweet smell. Purple lilacs are said to symbolize your "first love" while white lilacs represent "youthful innocence."
- Lilies come in many varieties, but the most popular are Peruvian, Calla, and Stargazer lilies. Peruvian lilies represent friendship and devotion. Calla Lilies symbolize magnificent beauty. If you'd like to inject your ceremony with a majestic feel, Stargazer Lilies are the perfect flower for you.
- Orchids are perfect, if you are into exotic florals. Orchids are symbolic of rare and delicate beauty.
- Roses are by far the most popular flowers used in weddings over the centuries. Roses are the ultimate symbol of love and appreciation. Each color of a rose holds a different meaning: red –love; pink—admiration and appreciation; yellow—friendship; white—purity, new beginnings and honor; orange—passion and romance; and lavender—enchantment and love.
- Stephanotis represents good luck and happiness in marriage.
- Sunflowers are bright and cheery. Sunflowers represent warmth, adoration and longevity.
- Tulips are the second most popular wedding flower next to roses. Similar to roses, tulips symbolize love and have different specific meanings according to their color: red—true love; purple—royalty; yellow—cheerfulness; white—forgiveness and variegated tulips mean beauty.
Tulips are some of my favorite flowers. Not only do they look terrific in bouquets, they are also an excellent choice for table florals. They look lovely in a clear vase and can be used as a guest take away at the end of the evening. Tulips are simple and elegant.
